China Pauses All Exports of Rare Earth Minerals

President Trump continues to look into alternate sources, including domestic production of minerals.

China recently halted its exports of rare earth minerals after the tariff escalation with President Trump’s administration.

President Donald Trump fully implemented his long-promised tariffs on April 2, what he dubbed “Liberation Day.” China responded by imposing higher tariffs and export controls on April 4, most notably blocking rare earth exports to the U.S., Japan, and Germany. China is also requiring special licenses for other countries to obtain any rare earth minerals from their country. China exports the majority of the rare earth minerals used by the world, and these new export controls have blocked its shipment to a number of ports.

“Rare earths are a part of lots of the economy,” National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett acknowledged. “The rare earth limits are being studied very carefully, and they’re concerning, and we’re thinking about all the options right now.”

President Trump is looking to secure a rare earths agreement with Ukraine as he seeks to broker a ceasefire between that nation and Russia. The president is also interested in obtaining minerals from Greenland.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for President Trump, Treasury Secretary Bessent, U.S. Trade Representative Greer, and Commerce Secretary Lutnick as they negotiate new trade agreements with other nations.
  • For the president to be prudent as he seeks alternate supplies of critical rare earth minerals.
